Athens —
The Henderson County Performing Arts Center, in conjunction with Cedar Lake Nursing Home and Rehab, announces the opening of “The Sanders Family Christmas,” the sequel to the smash hit musical, “Smoke on the Mountain” that performed last October.
Replete with all of the cast members from that show and the addition of new Sanders family members, HCPAC will present “The Sanders Family Christmas” on February 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th and 16th at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, February 10.
It’s December 24, 1941, and America is going to war. So is Dennis Sanders of the Sanders Family Singers. Join Pastor Mervin Oglethorpe and the rest of the Sanders family as they send Dennis off with hilarious and touching stories and 25 Southern Gospel Christmas favorites.
All of the original cast members from Smoke on the Mountain are back to entertain the audiences. Reprising roles from that production are Bob Schoonover as Burl, David Young as Stanley, Maria Ogburn as Vera, Channing Horton and Beau Humble as the twins, Dennis and Denise, Natalie Rosser as June and Gary McDonald as Pastor Mervin Oglethorpe.
As the family prepares for their final Gospel Sing for a long time, they call on the services of other Sanders family members to join them at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Joining the family on this cold Christmas Eve in North Carolina are Alberta Pingle (Mary Alice Sanders) on piano, Reuben Austin (Lester Sanders) on Bass, Gene Banks (Jr. Sanders) on Guitar and Fiddle, Ash Gimler (Jackson Sanders) on drum and trumpet, Aaron Lemmon (Cody Sanders) on tambourine and sticks, Kate Martin (Mary Margaret Sanders) on tambourine, Fran Bardwell (Willodean Sanders Anderson) on washboard, Sue Oates (Clora Ann Sanders) on piano, accordion and bells and Sandy Curran (Rose Ella Sanders) on bells.
Sanders Family Christmas is directed by Dennis Gilmore with musical direction by David Young. Reservations may be made by calling 903-675-3908 or on line at www.hcpac.org. Tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for students and children. The show is rated Theatre PG and suitable for all audiences.
