A 25-year-old man who fled an attempted Henderson County Sheriff’s Office traffic stop was arrested Friday by a Gun Barrel City Police officer.
Johnny Dewayne Owens of Gun Barrel City remained in the Henderson County Jail on Friday, facing charges of evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and theft of property $50 to $500. Total bond on Owens was set at $15,500.
The HCSO reported that Dep. Brad Beddingfield was patrolling in the Gun Barrel City area shortly before midnight Thursday, when he attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Owen’s vehicle.
When the vehicle didn’t stop, Beddingfield followed him down various roads in the Harbor Point Subdivision.
Owen eventually crashed in the backyard of a residence on Nob Hill Road. He then got out of the vehicle and ran.
Beddingfield and other law officers searched for Owen, who was eventually captured in the subdivision by the Gun Barrel City Police Department.
Deputies searched Owen’s vehicle, and found a loaded semi-automatic pistol near the driver’s seat.
The felon with a firearm charge is a third-degree felony, and carries a sentence of two to 10 years in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000.
