The Athens Review
A burglary at the Athens Sonic drive-in restaurant early this week ended up with a missing safe. Sonic is located at 1402 E. Tyler St.
Athens Police Chief Buddy Hill reported that his agency received a call from an employee who reported for work at 5 a.m., Monday.
The burglary took place sometime between 11 p.m., Sunday and 5 a.m., Monday.
“There was an amount of cash in the safe,” Hill said. “Nothing else has been reported stolen.”
Hill said officers responded to the call and found forced entry into the back of the business through the back door. He reported that there was a little damage to the back door where it was pried open.
“The officers entered the building, and cleared it to make sure there were no suspects inside. There weren’t,” Hill said.
Responding to the scene were Patrol Officer Wesley Hoover, Cpl. Roger Keith and Sgt. Jeremy Hugghins.
Hill said he was not at liberty to disclose the amount of cash that was in the safe. The case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division, with Det. Adam Parkins heading up the investigation.
