First of three AISD board forums set for tonight at AHS

Athens — Thursday will mark the first of three scheduled opportunities the public will have to question candidates for the Athens Independent School District Board of Trustees election.

Candidates have been invited to attend the first forum, set for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Athens High School Annex Auditorium. The forum is being sponsored by the Athens Parent-Teacher Organization.

A second forum will be held Saturday at St. Stephens Anglican Church. The forum will begin at 9 a.m. at the church, located at 2101 East College Street. St. Stephens has held a series of similar Breakfast Forums for political candidates over the past few years.

On Monday, the Athens Classroom Teachers Association will host a forum beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Athens Middle School library.

Candidates for the election are:

Place 5:  Incumbent Raymond Williams; challengers Blu Nicholson, Dr. Vance Vaughn.

Place 6: Incumbent David Freeman; challengers Niki Killingsworth, MaryAnn Tyner.

Place 7: Incumbent Bob Spears; challenger Jacqueline Solomon.

Early voting begins Monday, April 29. Election Day is Saturday, May 11. Early voting and Election Day voting will be held at the District Support Center, located at 104 Hawn St. in Athens.
