Man arrested for possession of anhydrous ammonia, other violations

ATHENS — A 42-year-old man was in the Henderson County Jail Tuesday after he was arrested during a search of his residence in Eustace.

James Allen Huddleston was charged with possession of anhydrous ammonia in an unapproved container, and possession of a controlled substance. A total of $15,000 bond was set on the two charges.

Anhydrous ammonia is a third-degree felony, punishable by a term of two to 10 years in a correctional facility, and a possible fine, not to exceed $10,000.

The controlled substance charge is a state jail felony which carries up to a 2-year term, and a possible $2,000 fine.

HCSO reports indicate  the Drug Enforcement Unit arrived at the residence  on County Road 2509 to execute a search warrant.

Officers located two propane tanks on the property that contained the anhydrous ammonia.

Anhydrous ammonia is a chemical formed by combining nitrogen with ammonia. It is often used in the making of methamphetamine.

During the search, reports said, law officers also found a small-plastic baggie containing a substance that appeared to be methamphetamine.

Huddleston was arrested at the scene, and taken to jail.

Taking part in the search were HCSO Investigators Greg Hill, Wick Gabbard and David Faught assisted by Capt. Bryan Tower, Dep. Billy Jack Valentine, Sgt. Thomas Goodell and Investigator Kendall Wellman.

    Orosco turned 19 on Wednesday, taking her out of the youth division to compete against the best. She’s only been using her violin in the fiddlin’ style for about five years.

    Some county voters will be traveling to new polling places for this round of balloting, after the much-debated redistricting process.
