The Athens Review
Sixteen-year-old Tucker Owings was fishing on Lake Athens Saturday when the angler fisherman hit a storm. The teen had no idea that the GoPro camera he had mounted on the boat’s windshield would film lightning striking just a few yards from his boat.
According to reports, the lightning was so close to boat, Owings said it was “like a knock to the back of the head, a big force that hit me.”
Owings, who became an professional angler at the age of 14, reportedly said he had a headache the rest of the day, but neither he nor his friend suffered any injuries from their close call with the lightning.
After posting the video on Facebook, the lightning video has gone viral and made it's way around all the national and local news networks.
He told CBS news, “We were literally feeling what I would describe as static on our rods. At that point, we quickly started to head to the ramp.”
Tucker said, “I am one of the youngest professionals in the fishing industry, and just learned a very important lesson. I am thankful God protected us.”
