The Athens Review
Those ceremonial gold shovels? Toss them aside. It’s time for the real work to begin.
Dirt work began Wednesday at Kiwanis Park to kick off the construction of the Athens Splash Pad. A ceremonial groundbreaking for the $220,000 project was held late last month. The project is a joint effort between the Athens Kiwanis Club, Athens Chamber of Commerce and the Athens Leadership Institute.
Officials — who said another $50,000 must be raised to completely fund the project — are hopeful the Splash Pad will be operational by this summer.
