The Athens Review
Henderson County is fortunate to have as one of its state representatives Jim Pitts, the chairman of the powerful Texas House of Represen-tatives Appropriations Committee.
Chairman Pitts presides over all of the decisions concerning how funds are spent by the Texas Legislature as he serves the people of Western Henderson County and Ellis County.
Former 14-year Henderson County State Representative Fred Head, himself a former member of the House Appropriations Committee, and his wife, Henderson Democratic Party Chairper-son Marsha Head, visited with Chairman Pitts in Austin on March 28.
In commenting on their meeting, former Represent-ative Head stated, “We believe Chairman Pitts is a good person who is doing his best to help make Texas a better place for all of those who live here. Although we don’t always agree with him, we believe his heart is in the right place and that he works very hard to help build a better Texas. During our personal visit, I told Chairman Pitts that we are deeply grateful for his service, especially in restoring funds for public school education, and I encouraged him to keep up his good work and to call on his friends in Henderson County when he needed our help.”
In addition to his representation of Western Henderson County in the Texas House of Represen-tatives, Representative Pitts has long-time, close professional and personal ties to the people of Henderson County. Representative Pitts’ mom and dad were longtime residents of Star Harbor. Pitts’ dad was a member of the Henderson County Bar Association prior to his death, and his mom continued to make her home in Star Harbor until she passed away.
The Pitts family continues to own the family home in Star Harbor where they have frequent family gatherings.
