Trinity Valley Community College announced today it will forfeit its women’s basketball game Saturday against Weatherford College. Saturday’s forfeit will end the Lady Cardinals’ 47-game winning streak and drop their record to 11-1. The decision was made due to the Lady Cardinals, who are currently unbeaten and ranked No. 2 nationally, having just four healthy eligible players. NJCAA rules require a team begin a game with five players. Six players on the Lady Cardinals’ 10-player active roster were suspended for two games for leaving the bench in an on-floor incident late in a game against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at Cardinal Gym last Friday. The Lady Cardinals finished the game with four players in the 83-61 win. The Lady Cardinals added Catania Grant, a scholarship player from the college’s volleyball team, the next day to have five players to play Austin Elite – a 100-59 win. Grant aggravated a leg injury in the game, making her unavailable to play against Weatherford. The Lady Cardinals’ next outing is their conference opener at home next Wednesday against Panola. All suspended players will be eligible to participate in the 5:30 p.m. contest.
