Athens — St. Matthias’ Episcopal Church of Athens will be collecting new children’s underwear for its neighbor, Bel Air Elementary, as part of an “Undies Sunday” drive set for this weekend.

“When asked what we could do to assist the school, Kathleen Cleaveland, the nurse at Bel Air, expressed a real need for boys and girls undies, sizes 4-8,” said Vicki Beeler of St. Matthias’. “The school has plenty of clothes, but is in real need for undies.”

The undies will help preserve a child’s dignity when he or she has an accident or becomes ill. Beeler emphasized, “The undies need to be new.”

Anyone wanting to join the church in helping the young children of Bel Air can drop off some new undies by the church at 205 Willowbrook St. on Saturday, Feb. 16, between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon, or contact the church at 903-675-3210 to arrange a different time.
