Athens ISD approves expenditures

Athens — Athens Independent School District trustees met in regular session Thursday, Nov. 21 to consider one item with expenditure above $10,000, and three others of less monetary value.

Trustees approved unanimously the expenditure of $10,612 for the purchase of trade books for South Athens Elementary with instructional materials allotment funds.

Trustees also approved unanimously the nomination of Trustee Robert Risko as interim TASB board member for directors of District 7.  That district governs activities of several school boards in northeast Texas, including those in Tyler.

Trustees approved dissolving the separate campus ID code for Bridges.

AISD Superintendent Blake Stiles agreed with the decision, saying the separate code probably shouldn’t have been authorized in its beginnings.

“I recommend rolling those students under the high school campus code,” Stiles said.

One item on the agenda involved addition/revision to local policy regarding employee records.  Trustee Steve McElhany made a motion to table the item until more information could be secured.  Trustees approved the tabling unanimously.

In executive session, trustees accepted resignations from: Linda Yarbrough, a math teacher at Athens High School; Susan Lay, a student support specialist from DSC; and Aleciah Sims, from pre-kindergarten program at Bel Air Elementary.

Trustees also approved the hiring of Cindy Carter to the district.

AISD meetings are held the third Thursday of every month.
