The Athens Review
An apparent attempt to steal copper and other metals from an Athens business didn’t end well for two men this week.
The possible theft that occurred on Rocky Ridge Road on Monday night is under investigation and could lead to arrest warrants issued on the individuals for theft.
According to APD reports, dispatch received a call at about 9 p.m. from a man who said he had seen two men steal items from a shop in the 1500 block of Rocky Ridge Road and was following their vehicle.
The citizen followed the men until they pulled into the Lake Ridge Estates Apartment Complex on Flat Creek Road and kept them at the location until police arrived.
APD learned that the individuals had trays loaded with copper and brass valves and fittings in their possession.
Cpl. Roger Keith took an incident report at the scene for possible theft of scrap metal from Precision Machine Company. Keith identified the two individuals, released one, but arrested the other for existing warrants.
APD determined the following day that the metal items had been stolen.
