Athens —
A Dallas man was arrested while allegedly burglarizing a Payne Springs residence Monday, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office reports indicate.
Vernon Paul Lindsey, Jr., 23, was booked into the Henderson County Jail on a charge of burglary of a habitation.
The offense carries a sentence, upon conviction, of two to 20 years in the Texas Department of Corrections, and a fine not to exceed $10,000. He remained in jail Tuesday, with bond set at $10,000.
“The suspect was apprehended due to a concerned neighbor calling 9-1-1 when they observed suspicious activity,” Sheriff Ray Nutt said.
HCSO reports said dispatch received the call shortly after 9 a.m. Dep. Kyle Pochobradsky was sent to the residence on County Road 2529 to investigate a possible burglary in progress.
When Pochobradsky arrived, he found Lindsey inside the residence in possession of items he appeared to be in the process of removing from the building.
Reports said Lindsey told authorities that he had forced entry into the house, and was removing the valuables without the owner’s consent. He was transported to the Justice Center for booking.
In the course of the investigation, Pochobradsky learned that the residence is a weekend home of a person who lives out of the Cedar Creek Lake area.
