The Athens Review
Athens — National Art Month will soon be celebrated at Athens High School and the Athens Middle School. The schools will host Youth Art Month, Saturday, March 6 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in their respective cafeterias.
Youth Art Month (YAM) is an annual observance held each March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs.
Youth Art Month was created in 1961 by the Art and Creative Materials Institute (ACMI), a non-profit association of art and craft materials manufacturers, in cooperation with the National Art Education Association, NAEA.
This will be the fourteenth year that Athens has formally observed YAM. The month of March is the time to showcase visual art programs throughout schools, districts, communities and Texas. March is the official month to step up and promote your successes, and exhibit your students’ art within the community.
There will be a juried show, and the awards will be posted on the pieces of art. Also planned is an event to have the choir and band perform for the community. There will also be a chalk art contest at the high school.
Please make arrangements to come out and support our young artists in all of their endeavors as they show off their talents during this important time in their lives.
