The Athens Review
October is time of transition that brings cooler weather, falling leaves, pumpkins and — basketball practice.
The Athens Farmer’s Market gets into the season, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, with the Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals on-hand to give a clinic on some of the skills of the sport.
Farmer’s Market organizer D.J. Warren said new Lady Cards Coach Elena Lovato is getting her team involved in the community. They’ll have T-shirts for sale that you can wear to the games, or just around town. The Lady Cards season starts Nov. 6.
Saturday is also the day of the hamburger at Farmer’s Market. In celebration of the birthday of Uncle Fletch Davis, inventor of the burger, Farmer’s Market vendors have donated the goods to cook some up between 10 a.m. and noon. Proceeds will go to help support North 19 Fire/Rescure.
If you come earlier, you can get breakfast tacos from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Farmer’s Market is located at the Athens City parking lot on North Palestine Street. Across the street from the market grounds at the 211 Gallery, a kids’ art workshop is scheduled, with artists giving tips on their craft.
Warren said the weather is ideal these days to look around at what the market has to offer, and enjoy some time outdoors with members of the community.
