Athens —
An Athens teen was killed, and an 18-year-old Sanger resident was jailed following a Saturday wreck in Sanger.
Bradley Joe Mitchell, died at the scene of the single-vehicle crash about a half-mile west of the Denton County city limits, Texas Department of Public Safety reports indicate. Mitchell was a passenger in 2005 GMC pickup driven by Tyler Curtis Monroe.
DPS reports indicate that the wreck occurred at about 4 a.m., when the pickup left the pavement on the south side of View Road, hit a utility pole, then came to rest after striking a tree.
View Road intersects with Interstate 35 in that city of about 7,000.
Monroe was initially treated for minor injuries, then transferred to the Denton County Jail, where he was booked for intoxication manslaughter.
He remained in custody, Tuesday, with bond set at $250,000. The offense is a second-degree felony, and carries a punishment, upon conviction, of imprisonment of not more than 20 years, or less than two years.
In addition to imprisonment, the defendant may also be assessed a fine, not to exceed $10,000.
Mitchell, who was born in Dallas, had family connections with the Sanger area.
Services for Mitchell are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Chapel in Ennis. Burial will follow at Sanger Cemetery.
