Athens — Funeral services were held Monday for A 2001 LaPoynor High School graduate who died in a construction accident in Palestine last week.

Zach Eggen, 26, a superintendent for T.C. Construction Company was working underneath a portable building Thursday morning when the structure slid on top of him. The building had been recently moved to the Palestine High School campus, and was located on ground that had been saturated by recent rains. The supporting jacks under the building apparently shifted, causing the structure to shift.

The Palestine Police Department reported that rescue personnel had to cut through the floor of the building to reach Eggen who was dead before he could be freed.

The deceased leaves a wife of less than two years, Amanda Eggen and a small daughter, Leah Eggen. His parents, Stanley and Tammy Eggen, live in LaRue.

Donations to help the family can be sent to the FBO Zach Eggen Benefit Account set up at First State Bank of Frankston, Palestine Branch, 2745 S. Loop 256, Palestine, Texas, 75801.
