The Chandler Historical Society will host the Putting on the Ritz at the rodeo Jan. 18 at Stone Oak Ranch in Murchison.
From 7-10 p.m. enjoy a casino night complete with beverages, refreshments and $500 in chips. Cost is $40.
Proceeds benefit the Chandler Museum at Arlie McCain Park.
The museum is a project led by the Chandler Historical Society as it seeks to preserve some of the city’s history.
Several of the rooms are complete while the Chandler Economic Development Corp. is teaming with the Chandler Chamber of Commerce to provide a visitor’s center in the front room of the old Yarborough home.
The proposed visitor’s center will be able to provide information to those new to the area.
The front porch has recently been updated while Stanley McCurley and Acme Brick will install donated brick around the entire house.
Additional parking is being discussed while officials are looking into the need for a larger sign identifying what the house is.
Chandler Historical Society members and the Women’s Unity Fellowship organization have “adopted” each of the seven downstairs rooms in the home. They include the front library/parlor room that will include an arts and crafts gallery; the front bedroom – Chandler history; the utility room – Chandler telephone office; the master bedroom – Yarborough history/ military room; formal dining room – vignettes of Chandler business history; the sunroom – a meeting room that will include collectables; and a functional kitchen.
Break out the denim and diamonds for the casino night to help support the museum and Chandler’s history. Call the library at 903-849-4122 for ticket information.
