By Rich Flowers News Editor
An Athens teen, who tried to flee a drug arrest Friday, remained in the Henderson County Jail Monday.
Cody Tremain Carter, 18, was charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance (one gram to four grams), and evading arrest. Carter posted $23,500 bond, and was released Monday.
Athens Police Department reports said Officer John Riley and Cpl. Billy Westover were patrolling the St. Joseph Street area when they saw Carter sitting on the front porch of a residence.
The officers were aware that Carter was sought on existing warrants, and began to approach the suspect.
As the officers neared, Carter fled to the back of the house, and tossed down a bag. Officers retrieved the bag, and found that it contained 19 off-white colored rocks of what appeared to be crack cocaine.
Carter had been arrested on Oct. 13 by Henderson County Drug Narcotics Investigators working in the Athens area
In that incident, Carter was charged with possession of a controlled substance (one gram to four grams), evading arrest and detention and absconding while on parole. Carter was released on bond Oct. 15.
According to HCSO reports, Carter was one of three suspects arrested as a result of a lengthy investigation into drug activity in the neighborhood.
Officers obtained an arrest warrant from Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Henry Ashford, and went to a suspect’s residence to serve the warrant.
Investigators arrived at the residence, and attempted to arrest him.
He fled on foot, leading to a chase, but was quickly arrested.
A search revealed that he was in possession of a small amount of a controlled substance.
