The Henderson County Commissioners Court made a series of appointments Tuesday for positions on the Hospital Authority Board and Emergency Service District No. 3.
Candidates were also nominated for consideration for the East Texas Medical Center Board of Managers.
Two positions were open on the Hospital Authority Board, which were the unexpired seats previously held by Joe Cashin of Precinct 2 and David Monk of Pct. 3. Pct. 2 Commissioner Wade McKinney said Cashin stepped down due to health concerns after suffering a stroke. David Monk resigned to pursue other endeavors and Larry Everett, who was chosen as his replacement, declined an offer to serve.
Commissioners chose Enchanted Oaks Mayor Don Warner for Pct. 2 and Charles Curtis for Pct. 3. Curtis was the 2006 Democrat candidate for county judge, losing to David Holstein in the general election.
The county created the authority in 1982 to “ensure that adequate hospital facilities and related services are provided for the present and future needs of the citizens of the county at a reasonable cost.”
Commissioners picked four names for consideration for the ETMC Board of Managers. The board of managers is made up of nine members who oversee the administration of the Athens facility. The commissioners and the hospital authority board each nominate candidates for five of the positions. Two of those positions, previously held by Bob Gould and Ron Baugh, are up this year. Three other members of the board are ETMC officers and the final member is a physician elected by the hospital chief of staff.
The Commissioners Court nominees are Kenneth McGee and Jerry King for Baugh’s seat and David Monk and Anne Sherrill for Gould’s seat.
For the Henderson County Emergency Services District No. 3, commissioners reappointed Allen Terrell, Larry Dunn and James H. “Buzz” Sides. The district includes the southeast corner of the county and includes the New York, Larue and Poynor areas.
