The Athens City Council on Monday approved a resolution to recommend an appointment to the Henderson County Appraisal District Board of Directors.
City Administrator Pam Burton said on Sept. 17, each taxing authority nominates a person to fill the vacancy. Athens Mayor Randy Daniel said the council had originally considered nominating Richard Sanders for Place 2 on the board, but Sanders opted not to take the position.
The council then approved a resolution nominating Jack Bailey for the seat.
The council also:
• approved the re-appointment of Shirley Ward, Dan Dwelle and David Holdredge to the Athens Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors;
• approved the re-appointment of Mike Peek to the Cain Center Board of Directors. He will serve his third three- year term on the board;
• approved two appointments — Mamie Stafford and Lois Wright — to the Athens Housing Authority; and
• approved a request from Light Up Athens to allow Ginger’s Park to have “A Child’s Christmas” theme next month. The project will begin on Saturday, Nov. 22.
“They are staying with Ginger’s favorite,” Burton said.
Ginger’s Park is located on the west side of the Henderson County Courthouse square.
