Turning the page

Ceremony honors librarian Warren

By Rich Flowers News Editor

Henderson County Clint W. Murchison Library Head Librarian Terry Warren’s life is about to turn a page.

Warren, who retires June 30, was honored Wednesday morning at a reception at the library commemorating her 27 years of service, including the final two as head librarian.

“The thing I’ll miss most will be the people. I’ve made so many good friends,” Warren said. “Most everybody I’ve dealt with here has been very gracious.”

The head librarian upon Warren’s departure will be Larry Philen, who came to the staff shortly after Warren took charge.

“He was the first person I hired after I took over. I made a good choice,” Warren said.

Warren thanked Philen and Children’s Librarian Laurie Lee, who will move into Philen’s assistant librarian’s spot, for their service during her tenure.

“She’s earned her time off,” Philen said. “We’re sad that she’s leaving, but were happy for her.”

Warren said her retirement will give her more time to “aggravate” her husband, Dee. She also plans to do some knitting. Philen and Lee presented her with a gift of two knitting books to keep her busy.

Dee said Terry’s knitting skills have won multiple awards at the East Texas State Fair and she once placed fourth in needlepoint at the State Fair Of Texas.
