PAYNE SPRINGS — The people of Payne Springs have spoken.
They said no — again.
Payne Springs voters once again sank a proposition that would have allowed alcohol sales within the city limits.
The battle was a close one, as the proposition was defeated by a margin of 100 votes against and 86 for.
“I am very disappointed that the proposal did not win,” said Mayor Mike McDonald, who asked for the election to be called. “The city will not have that sales tax revenue available, and it may force us to look to the ad valorem tax.”
McDonald said he was more disappointed in the alcohol proposal falling than a loss of his own. He was defeated by J.T. Noble in the election for mayor of Payne Springs Saturday night, as well.
“The people have made their decision and they went that way. I wish him well,” McDonald said.
In the City Council elections Rodney Renberg was selected for one of the seats.
The other is still up for grabs, as only one vote separated Vic Brazzell and Michael Juica with one ballot outstanding.
If there is a tie, that would force a provisional ballot.
