Eighteen suspects arrested Wednesday on warrants served by the Henderson County Drug Enforcement Unit investigation have been arraigned. Half of the individuals remained in the Henderson County Jail Friday, with bonds ranging from $5,000 to $400,000.
The arrests followed a six-month DEU investigation targeting the manufacture and sale of crack cocaine. The findings of the investigation were presented to the Henderson County District Attorneys Office and sealed indictments were subsequently obtained on the suspects.
Fifteen of the suspects have Athens addresses. Athens Police Department Chief Buddy Hill commended the officers who took part in the operation.
The arrests are the result of several months of thorough investigation by the DEU. Theyve done an outstanding job of building solid cases against these individuals, Hill said. The arrests were a result of a cooperative effort involving most of the law enforcement departments in the county.
