Burglary suspect arrested

From staff reports

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man Wednesday who investigators believe may be linked to several Payne Springs area burglaries.

A second suspect has also been identified, according to sheriff’s department reports.

Deputies executed a traffic stop on 18-year-old Nathaniel Wayne Peasley Wednesday, at which time he was served a warrant for burglary of a habitation. Peasley was booked into the Henderson County Jail where he awaited arraignment Thursday afternoon. The identity of the second suspect has not been released, but an arrest is imminent, Sheriff Ray Nutt said.

In February, the sheriff’s department began conducting special patrols around Payne Springs in an attempt to slow the rise of burglaries in the area. During the course of the investigation, special assignment deputies and patrol deputies developed leads that helped investigators identify the two suspects, reports said.

“The Henderson County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the citizens of Henderson County for assisting with information in this case,” Nutt said.

Also Wednesday, Investigators Kalon Rollins and Michael Shelley, along with Deputies Billy Jack Valentine, Danny Cope and Sgt. Thomas Goodell, executed a search warrant at 107 Red Oak Street in Mabank. Investigators believed property stolen during the burglaries was being held at the residence, but discovered that most of the property had been moved to another location during the past couple of days.

Investigators did not find either of the suspects at the house but learned where they might be located. Since the search, several leads have developed that investigators hope will lead to the whereabouts of the remaining property.
