No one in attendance could remember a shorter meeting of the Henderson County Commissioners Court than the 13 minute session Tuesday.
Commissoners approved the purchase of $5,000 public official bonds for members of the Henderson County Fair Park Board.
The bonds, which cost the county $285 each will cover the officials for two years.
Commissioners also approved three refunds to taxpayers from County Tax Assessor Collector Milburn Chaney. Anita Smith of Chaney’s office said two refunds, in the amount of $2,500 and $1.300, to correct over-payments by the property owners.
“In one case, the husband came in and paid one day and the same day the wife paid it over the Internet,” Smith said.
The largest of the three was a $2,700 remittance to the Brookshire’s store in Mabank. Smith said Brookshire’s had protested their property tax appraisal and had received the decrease following arbitration.
“It was the result of their appraisal,” Smith said. “They said it was too high. A lot of the Brookshire’s protested their value this year.”
In other action, Commissioners approved payment of bills in the amount of $180,937.17.
Commissioners did not revisit items tabled at the April 7 meeting which include:
• a proposal to move the Precinct 3 voting box from the Judicial Complex to the Just Us Guys Community Center and
• a new set of rules and regulations from the purchasing department.
