TVCC names three to vice posts at meeting

Special to the Review

Following Monday night’s board meeting, there are three new vice presidents at Trinity Valley Community College.

Following an hour-long executive session, the board unanimously approved the hiring of Jerry King as the vice president of instruction. The vice president of instruction oversees all academic aspects of the college.

He was chosen from a nationwide pool of 22 applicants.

King, who has worked at TVCC since 1975, is currently serving as assistant vice president of instruction for workforce education and business relations.

“Dr. King brings a lot of experience to the campus and is very familiar with our faculty and staff. That experience was part of what made him a good choice for this position,” said TVCC President Glendon Forgey.

“But, he also has a lot of innovative ideas which will help us continue to provide quality instruction for students. And his management style fits very well with the team-building philosophy we have here at TVCC.”

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to serve TVCC, our community and our students in this new capacity,” said King. “I’m happy that my experience will be able to assist the college in the future.”

During his time at TVCC, he has also served as the dean of workforce education, a position he held for 20 years. He has also been a professor of business and economics.

King earned his Doctorate of Education, Master’s of Business Administration and his Bachelor’s of Science degree, all from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

King was the mayor of Athens from 1995 until 2005. He was named citizen of the year by the Athens Chamber of Commerce in 1997.

On Monday, the TVCC board also approved the promotion of David Hubbard to vice president for resource management and college relations and the promotion of Jean McSpadden to vice president of administrative services.

Hubbard is currently the assistant to the president. He has worked at TVCC since 1999 and served in his current position since 2002. He is a graduate of TVCC and holds a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Tyler.

Hubbard’s position is new to the college. He will be responsible for overseeing the college’s human resources and facility resources. He will also oversee all marketing and public relations aspects of the college.

McSpadden is the dean of fiscal services. She has worked at the college since 2005. McSpadden is a certified personal accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Texas at Austin and a M.B.A. from the University of Dallas.

Her position is also new to TVCC. She will be responsible for the oversight of the business aspect of the college, such as purchasing and the business office. She will also oversee the college’s informational technology department and the bookstore.

“Max Logan, dean of facilities, is retiring after many dedicated years of service to the college, and Max will be greatly missed,” Forgey said. “Dave and Jean will be assuming many of the oversight duties for which Max was responsible, and they will continue to enhance and streamline other operational areas of college.”
