Hatchery Halloween will be different

Still as much fun, but all inside building because of threatening rain

Things are going to be a bit different at the annual Halloween at the Hatchery. The event takes place at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“Because of the severe weather that is supposed to move in on Thursday, we are going to have to move everything inside,” James Booker of the Fisheries Center said. “We are going to have just as much to do, and plenty of games and exhibits to go through.”

Booker said if the line of thunderstorms look like they are going to move through late in the day, organizers may have to cancel the event.

The event, now in its 10th year, will have more than 30 businesses from around Athens inside the main Visitors Center that will be giving out candy to kids of all ages.

“People in the community and businesses have always done a great job of supporting this,” Booker said. “The different businesses will decorate their booths, and some even dress up in costumes.”

Booker said with everything moving indoors, there will be games and fun things to do for the entire family.

“We are going to have several different exhibits, including a mad-science lab where kids can make gooey treats,” Booker said. “We want to make this as fun indoors as it has been in years past outside.”

Trinity Valley Community College President, Dr. Glendon Forgey will serve as the VIP judge for the different exhibits around the hatchery, as well as the many business booths.
