— Attendees at the 11th Annual Henderson County 2008 Cattle Baron’s Ball will have a big decision to make — what exactly to bid on.
Among the choices are cattle (yes, really), a pair of prize packages to make those who love the great outdoors salivate and historic Dallas Cowboys tickets.
“We’ve covered the whole gamut this year,” Cattle Baron’s co-public relations coordinator Dennis Mack said. “The list goes on and on.”
Someone will have the chance to purchase a Dallas Cowboys jersey autographed by Pro Bowl tight end Jason Whitten. The winner not only gets the jersey, but also four tickets to the last home game ever to be played at Texas Stadium.
“The tickets are for the 40-yard line,” Mack said. The package was donated by McDonald’s.
Two packages the sponsors are very excited about are a fishing trip to Mexico and a hunting package to Southeast Texas.
“These are two very expensive and very exclusive packages,” Mack said. “East Texas is full of sportsman who would be interested in these.”
The fishing trip is an all-expense paid trip to Mazatlan, Mexico.
“All you have to do is pay for the tickets to get there,” said owner of MexicoBassTours.com, C. Wayne Nolan. “Set the time for your trip and get three full days of fishing in.”
Nolan said all the food, drinks and amenities are taken care of.
“I have had people come and they don’t want to leave,” he said.
Nolan said fishermen can always catch a 10-pound plus bass.
If fishing isn’t your idea of fun, then you try bidding on a duck hunting trip on Murvaul Creek in Panola County.
Mack said the package is for up to four “guns” on a 600 acre private, managed marshland.
Carl Frentress with Advanced Ecology Limited said the marshland is filled with ducks, but if need be a backup plan is in place.
“We are going to do what we can to make it happen,” Frentress said.
The hunting package does not include lodging or meals.
Mack points out that there is only one way to get a package.
“You have to be there to place your bet,” he said, “and tickets are still available.”
The Cattle Baron’s Ball is Saturday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at Henderson County Fairpark Complex. Tickets are $75 for general admission and $100 for reserved seating.
Along with the auction will be entertainment from Keith Mitchell, a tree of life and a riderless horse ceremony.

• tickets to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas from Stace Smith Pro Rodeos;
• 3-year-old longhorn steer from Oliver Longhorns;
• a belted Galloway bull from Scott and Hollie Griffith; and
• a catered dinner for 20 at Saddlers.
