Man injured in one-vehicle rollover

ATHENS — A man was transported to East Texas Medical Center Athens after a one-vehicle rollover on U.S. Highway 175 east of Athens Friday afternoon.

According to witnesses at the scene, the driver of an SUV veered from the roadway, rolled into the grassy median area and overturned, ejecting him from the vehicle. Paramedics attended to the victim at the scene and then placed the man on a stretcher to be loaded into an ambulance. He appeared to be conscious when the ambulance departed for the hospital. His identity and condition were not immediately available.

The Texas Department of Public Safety was on the scene investigating the wreck. The Athens Police Department assisted with traffic control. The Athens Fire Department also responded with its hazardous materials unit.
