BI-DISTRICT SOCCER PLAYOFFS: Curse of the Bulldogs

AHS ousted for third straight year by Kilgore in opening round with 3-0 loss Monday night

WHITEHOUSE — The Athens Hornets were ousted from the Class 4A soccer playoffs by the Kilgore Bulldogs in the opening round with a 3-0 loss Monday night at Whitehouse.

The loss ended the Hornets season at 8-12-5 overall as the No. 4 seed out of District 31-4A.

Kilgore opened the first half scoring with a goal in the 15th minute of the first half and scored two more goals in the second half past Athens goalkeeper Johnny Gonzalez.

The Hornets won their final three games of the regular season to reach the postseason.

Coach Jonathan Ryal lost 10 seniors on this year's team as Gonzalez, Carlos Murrillo, Kody Ingham, Bryant Castaneda, Alfredo Vasquez, Carlos Aybar, Gerardo de la Fuente, Ricardo Carillo, Osiel Nieto and Daniel Salazar played their final game on Monday night.
