TVCC FOOTBALL: Climbing the mountain

Cardinals give Navarro first loss of the season with 35-7 thumping Saturday night

CORSICANA — The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals proved when they needed the knockout blow they could deliver against the No. 1-ranked team in the nation.

The Cardinals battled a lightning delay prior to the game and then scored 28 unanswered points in the second half against the Navarro College Bulldogs for a 35-7 victory at Tiger Stadium Saturday night in a SWJCFC battle.

With the win, the Cardinals improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Navarro picked up its first loss of the season at 4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

TVCC had rushing touchdowns from Marquel McNac for 56 yards and Luis Lopez for one yard. They also had receiving touchdowns from Tata Green for 37 yards and an 11-yard score from Trent Momon in the second half.

TVCC will prepare for the NEO Golden Norseman next Saturday in Miami, Ok. The contest is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Todd Hoffner was accused when a technician found videos of his young children on his school-issued cellphone. Officials in Mankato fired him even though a judge had thrown out the charges.
