Chapman buried Monday
Services were held Monday morning at First Baptist Church Malakoff for Athens resident Bruce Chapman, who died Friday in a car accident.
According to the Department of Public Safety report, Chapman, who was conscious when DPS arrived on the scene, said he swerved his 2004 Ford Ranger to miss a dog who had ran out in front of him, two miles west of Poynor, on Highway 175.
“He said the dog caused him to swerve and he lost control and hit a tree,” officer Jason Rolison said. “There was not an autopsy ordered and we don’t have any way to disprove that didn’t happen.”
Chapman was airlifted to ETMC-Tyler where he died later morning.
According to information from Cooper Funeral Home, Bruce was born December 30, 1962 to the late Bobby Lee and Billie Griffin Chapman. He worked for Oncor for 20 years. Bruce was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was survived by his wife, Jana Chapman of Athens, father, John Hart of Tool, daughters, Sarah Chapman of Katy, Emilee Chapman of Katy, sons and daughter-in-law Broc and Brooke Kilman of Buffalo, Patrick Kilman of Stephenville, Hunter Chapman of Athens, sisters and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Carney of Kemp, Krinna and Clyde Alexander of Garland.
Other survivors include Karen Hart of Carrollton, brothers and sisters-in-law Rusty and Ronda Chapman of Poetry, Chuck and Andra Chapman of Midlothian, grandaughter, Addyson Kilman of Buffalo, grandson Caden Foster of Buffalo and a host of nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones.
Editor’s note: Information on the wreck was not available before press deadline, Friday.
