Cooper receives sentence Thursday

3rd District Judge Mark Calhoon sentenced Athens Businessman Kenneth “Pete” Cooper to two concurrent six-year jail terms for intoxication assault Thursday.

Cooper plead guilty in April to two counts of intoxication assault in connection with a March 23, 2008 wreck that seriously injured Christy Arlien Adams of Murchison. Cooper and a passenger in his vehicle were also injured.

The punishment range for the third degree felony was 2-10 years for each count.

He could also have received probation.
