MARSHALL — The Athens Hornets find themselves in a 0-1 hole following Friday night's 10-0 loss to Pleasant Grove in the best-of-three regional quarterfinal opener at East Texas Baptist University.
The game was originally scheduled for Northeast Texas Community College but due to unplayable field conditions was moved to ETBU.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled to return to NTCC in Mount Pleasant with first pitch at 1 p.m., and Game 3 to follow if necessary 30 minutes later.
Athens (19-16) managed just two hits off Pleasant Grove senior Dalton Willege on a single by Adam Stallings in the first and a single in the sixth by Daniel Mossberger.
PGHS had a 5-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning and scored five runs off Athens starter Morgan Gimler and reliever Kaleb Sifers.
Pleasant Grove (22-11) is the defending Class 3A state champions.
