State Railroad to test new East Texas track link

PALESTINE — The Texas State Railroad plans to test a new three-mile section of track linking the East Texas rail attraction to the Union Pacific railroad.

In a statement, Texas State Railroad officials say they hope the connection in Palestine will allow the East Texas attraction to pursue short-haul freight contracts and earn new revenue to help secure its future. They say it'll also allow the railroad to add rail cars for special events, including a 1954 double-decked, glass-domed observation car

The test is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

The last time this rail route was used commercially was by the Texas South Eastern Railroad in December 1969.
