KEMP — Tomorrow, Dec. 21, Underground MX Park in Kemp invites you to “Ride into the Apocalypse.” The once-in-a-lifetime event has been formatted to provide something for everyone: from young kids to rock and roll fans of all ages.

The event features an afternoon “last chance ride” for dirt bike and ATV enthusiasts, a freestyle motocross exhibition show, and an evening rock concert by award-winning rock band Just Us.

The event will begin at noon today, when the park opens its tracks for both motocross and ATV enthusiasts. The general public is invited to arrive at the rural Kemp track by 6 p.m. to see the freestyle motocross show orchestrated by motocross aerialist Derek Cook. Cook, who hails from Piedmont, Oklahoma, is sure to dazzle the crowd with his athleticism and performance ability.

Randy Poulter, owner of Underground MX Park, says kids of all ages and adults will enjoy the acrobatics of Cook. “This is definitely one of those ‘don’t try this at home’ things, but if you have ever watched extreme sports like at the annual X-Games, that’s the type of tricks you will see during Derek’s show. It’s something totally different to do on a Friday night,” he says..

Following Cook’s performance, Just Us will hit the outdoor stage at 7 p.m. The band, which consists of seasoned lake area musicians, competed in and won the 2012 Battle of the Bands competition in Dallas earlier this year. The popular band is riding high with a record contract, work on a new CD, and gigs booked through summer 2013.

David Beery of Just Us is a Gun Barrel City resident. He said winning the Battle of the Bands was a huge honor, particularly since the group was one of the only bands from outside the metro area.

“I think we resonate with crowds because we really work hard at putting on a good show, and we play music that appeals to music fans of all ages,” Beery says.

Just Us is scheduled to play Friday night from 7 – 10. Free parking and free beer and soft drinks are included with the admission ticket. Everyone who enters the gate will receive a souvenir cup. If you plan to enjoy the free beer, be sure to bring your I.D. (There is a three drink limit per ticket holder.) Plenty of food and concessions also will be available.

“We hope to have hundreds of people come out for this fun event. It’s going to be a great place for college students home on break to gather for a night of fun, and adults and kids of all ages are sure to enjoy the festival atmosphere,” Poulter says.

Tickets are available at the gate the night of the event. Cost is $20 ($10 for kids ten and under), and that includes the freestyle show, concert, and the free drinks. Those who wish to ride the track during the day today can participate in the entire event for $30. Campsites and limited RV hook-ups are available. If you want to camp, call the park to ensure space availability.
