Ivanhoe demolition begins

Athens — A demolition crew removes brick from the front facade of the Ivanhoe building Monday in downtown Palestine. The roof of the almost 100-year-old historic building collapsed last October following heavy rains. Streets around the building have remained closed ever since. According to Palestine Fire Marshal Alan Wilcher, if demolition of the building progresses, Avenue A could be opened as soon as this week, but a portion of East Oak Street will remained closed until the demolition is completed.
