Athens Christian Prep gets grants from Thrivent

ATHENS — Athens Christian Preparatory Academy recently received $1,215 to complete a fundraiser for its campus relocation effort.

The Red River Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans partnered with students, faculty and friends of the Academy in hosting a paintball challenge.

Pledges gathered by the participants in the paintball challenge raised $3,645 and an additional $1,215 was provided by Thrivent Financial through its Care Abounds in Communities grant program. Through its chapter activities, Thrivent Financial provides financial support and other resources for its members to come together to help their communities through fundraisers and service activities.

The paintball challenge was recently held at the Brian and Stephanie West ranch located east of Athens. Students and adults formed teams to challenge each other, scoring points for each “hit.” Brian West is a teacher and coach at the Academy.

“Thrivent Financial provides its members and other interested volunteers the opportunity to join in service and uses the financial resources of Thrivent Financial to serve people and organizations here in our local area,” said Vic Willman, Chapter President for the Red River Chapter of Thrivent Financial. “Thrivent chapter activities like this one connect community organizations, institutions and volunteers to make a difference in people's lives.” He further stated, “Thrivent Financial members are pleased to be able to encourage the expansion of Athens Christian Preparatory Academy as it relocates to a permanent place in the Athens community.”

All Thrivent Financial members belong to a local organization — most often a chapter — that provides a way for them to give back to their communities, congregations and causes they care about through charitable activities, as well as connect with one another through social and educational events.

Anyone can join in volunteer and educational activities hosted by Thrivent Financial. To connect with the Red River Chapter of Thrivent Financial, email Willmann at vicwillmann@suddenlink.net or call 888-527-4225 and speak to Natalie Topham, area Associate Representative for Thrivent Financial.
