Brief chase leads to arrest

Athens — The Athens Police Department arrested a 49-year-old parole violator on Saturday after answering a suspicious person call.

Billy Ray Fulton was booked into the Henderson County Jail where he remained on Monday.

Fulton was held without bond on the parole violation charge and a previous forgery of a financial instrument.

Other charges include public intoxication and failure to identify as a fugitive.

Assistant Chief of Police Rodney Williams III said Detective Sgt. Don Yarbrough saw a man acting strangely at about 3 p.m. 200 block of Carroll Street. Officer Michael Reynolds, Cpl. Jason Bosher and Detective Sgt. Don Yarbrough went to the location.

Officers attempted to get an identification on the man who ran.

Bosher arrested Fulton following the foot race and a brief and physical altercation.

Bosher learned that Fulton had been wanted on a warrant from the Texas Bureau of Pardons and Paroles and a warrant from Brazos County.

Williams said since no one was injured in the incident, APD did not file additional charges against the Fulton.
