TVCC moves up to No. 6 in national poll
Fresh off a pair of season-opening wins, the Cardinals have vaulted to No. 6 in the NJCAA rankings.
Coach Brad Smiley’s Cardinals, who opened the season ranked 12th, are one of three Southwest Junior College Football Conference teams in the Top 10 in the first weekly poll. Blinn and Navarro, also both 2-0, are ranked first and third, respectively. Blinn was fifth in the preseason poll and Navarro seventh.
The Cardinals opened the season with a 27-13 road win over Dodge City (Kan.) and last week were a 41-14 winner over Cisco in their home opener.
After an open date this week, the Cardinals, who climbed as high as No. 12 in the poll last year, are scheduled to open conference play at home Saturday, Sept. 12, against NEO. A trip to Cisco follows on Saturday, Sep. 26, before the Cardinals play Navarro and Blinn on back-to-back Saturdays. They host Navarro on Saturday, Oct. 3, and travel to Brenham to face Blinn on Saturday, Oct. 10.
