A sign posted with other Christmas decorations at Harbor Guiding Light Ministry at 101 Lila Lane in Athens demonstrates the ministry’s thoughtfulness at the death of the children and adults in the recent Connecticut school shootings. There is one candle planted at the foot of the sign for every death recorded at that scene. Roy McDonald, a supervisor at the organization that gets men who are poor, alcoholics or drug addicts off the streets, looks proudly at the sign put together by the men who live there. The ministry is under the direction of director of operations and programs, Barbara Pettycrew.
